On Thursday, the sixth graders from Mr. Shawn’s class spent the morning at FARMS teaching kitchen in Damariscotta. During the 90 minute cooking lesson, students were introduced to nutrient dense winter vegetables and how to use a food dehydrator to create healthy snacks. Students prepped, cut, and sampled the veggies that were used to create their healthy snacks. This was the first in three courses that the class will be attending. Students will take their knowledge of nutrient dense veggies and how to create healthy snacks back to school to begin creating healthy snacks for their classmates. Soon, the sixth graders will be in charge of cleaning and preparing all the snacks for the school to enjoy. As the year comes to a close, the sixth grade students will be asked to begin teaching fifth graders on how to use the equipment and prepare the snacks!
